Biography of Haji Baga Sher
Murid Khan, popularly known as Mian Haji Baga Sher, was born near Dina in present-day Jhelum District. He belonged to the renowned Gakhar tribe, a community famous throughout Pothohar for military leadership, governance, and spiritual scholarship.
Historical accounts describe him as a military officer serving under Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah. It is said that nearly 4,000 soldiers served under his command before he left worldly service to pursue the spiritual path.
After seeing Pir Shah Ghazi Qalandar in a dream, he travelled to meet him and became his disciple. Through devotion, discipline, and spiritual excellence, he emerged as one of the greatest deputies of Pir Shah Ghazi Qalandar.
His title "Baga Sher" (White Lion) is associated with his white beard and immense spiritual authority. Having performed Hajj multiple times, he became widely known as Haji Baga Sher.
History of Darkali Sharif
Darkali Sharif was historically known as Darkali Mamori. It is one of three villages named Darkali in Kallar Syedan Tehsil: Darkali Mamori, Darkali Shershahi, and Darkali Syedan.
Historical sources indicate that Darkali was founded around 1384 CE. Later, members of the Kalyal tribe settled in the area. Mamori Khan became famous for Persian literary works, giving the village its historical identity as Darkali Mamori.
Today the village is widely known as Darkali Sharif due to the shrine complex of Mian Haji Baga Sher.

Shrine Complex of Darkali Sharif
The shrine of Mian Haji Baga Sher was built under the supervision of the renowned Sufi poet Mian Muhammad Bakhsh Qadiri, author of Sayf-ul-Malook. The mosque and shrine were later renovated while preserving important inscriptions. Today the shrine remains under the administration of the Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department, Government of Punjab.
